Indigenous Roots

I am of métis and settler descent. My family on my mother’s side is Métis and my father’s family is a mix of Western European, mainly Scottish. I grew up with my mother and my aunties in Ottawa until the age of 12 when I became a Crown Ward of the state. I am forever grateful to my great-aunt for passing on her teachings and memories. Despite her best efforts, I never became involved in métis politics and identify with a small “m” to reflect my political views.
